Subject Combination / JAMB UTME Requirements


In UTME, please note that English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combination needed to study Mass Communication under the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in the above listed universities include;

Any three (3) from Arts or Social Science subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) UNILAG, ADELEKE and BOWEN require Literature in English.

(ii) UNILAGOS accepts Mathematics as UTME subjects.

(iii) KSU requires Literature in English and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects

(iv) ABU requires Literature in English and any other two subjects.

(v) WESTERN-DEL requires Literature in English and any other two (2) Social Sciences or arts subjects. A pass in Mathematics may be accepted.

(vi) JABU requires Literature in English.

(vii) DELSU requires Mathematics and two other subjects from Economics, Government, Geography and Commerce.

(viii) KWASU requires Mathematics, Literature in English and any other subject.

(ix) SOUTHWESTERN requires Literature in English, Economics and Government.

(x) BUK requires any three subjects from Social Science subjects.

O’Level Requirements


The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Mass Communication;

You require;

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language and four (4) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.  

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) UNIZIKrequire five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language and ‘O’ Level pass in Mathematics. UNIZIK requires ‘O’ Level credit pass in Literature in English.

(ii) KWASU requires five O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Government and Literature-in-English.

(iii) OOU, LASU and RUN require Five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Lit-in-English and two additional subjects in Arts and Social Sciences.

(iv) IMSU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes to include English Language, Lit-in-English and at least a pass in Mathematics

(v) UNIZIK requires a credit pass in Lit-in-English

(vi) CRESCENT requires credit pass in Lit-in-English, History/Government, Economics

(vii) EBSU requires credit in Literature in English, English Language and Mathematics and a pass in a Nigerian Language will be an advantage.

(viii) GOUNI and BIU require credit pass in Mathematics.

(ix) UNIILORIN candidates must obtain at least credit pass in FIVE (5) subjects at S.S.C.E. O/Level or approved equivalent, including: English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and any other two (2) subjects; one from Arts and the other from Social Sciences. 

(x) ABU requires  Five ‘O’ level credit pass in English Language and Mathematics, Government/History and any two of Arts or Social Science Subjects.

(xi) BOWEN requires five SSCE Credit Passes to include English Language, Literature in English, Mathematics and any other subjects in arts and social sciences

(xii) WDU accepts five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, Literature in English, Government and any other social sciences subject.

(xii) JABU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language, Literature in English and at least a minimum of a pass in Mathematics

(xiv) ADELEKE requires Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) with credit passes in at least six (6) subjects, including English Language, English Literature and Mathematics obtained at not more than two sittings.

(xv) DELSU requires credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics and two other subjects from Economics, Government, Geography, Commerce and Government.

(xvi) UNILAG requires Five O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Literature-in-English and two other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences and related disciplines.

(xvii) KSU requires five credit passes at SSCE and/or GCE O/L in English Language, Literature in English, Mathematics and any other two Arts and or Social Science subjects.

(xviii) CRESCENT – Credit pass in Literature in English will be an added advantage.

(xix) SOUTHWESTERN requires credit passes to include English Language, Literature in English and Government plus at least a pass in Mathematics.

Direct Entry Requirements


These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mass Communication, if you don’t intend to use UTME.

You require;

Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

(i) RHEMA and UNIZIK accept Good NCE, OND/HND in relevant areas.

(ii) BSU accepts National Diploma in Mass Communication at distinction or Upper credit level, a pass in Mathematics plus UTME requirements.

(iii) IGBINEDION accepts ND (Credit) in Mass Communication, Theatre Arts or any other related field.

(v) CRESCENT accepts National Diploma in Mass Communication.

(iv) BIU requires in addition to the O’ level requirements specified, a minimum of two relevant subjects passed at GCE Advanced level or NCE (3 merits) or National Diploma in relevant field not below credit level.

(v) BOWEN accepts two ‘A’ passes in any Arts and Social Science subject.

(vi) ABU accepts

(a) Two ‘A’ level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects one of which must be Government, Sociology, Economics or Commerce.
(b) Credit/Merit Pass in ABU Diploma in Mass Communication or Journalism. Equivalent Diploma in Mass Communication from a recognize University also acceptable.

(v) KASU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language and four other subjects in Arts or Social Science.

(vi) KWASU requires A’ level passes in Literature in English, Government and any other subject or ND at Upper Credit level or HND lower credit level.

(vii) WDU requires two A’ level passes in Arts, Social Sciences subjects. ND (lower credit) in Mass Communication.

(viii) LASU accepts HND (lower credit) in Mass Communication, Marketing, Book Publishing, Printing Technology or related field from a recognised Polytechnic in addition to UTME requirements.

(ix) ADELEKE accepts

(a) Five (5) papers at Principal level in Higher School Certificate or GCE Advanced level together with credit passes in not less than three other subjects including in English Language, Literature in English and Mathematics in the SSS Certificate Examination or GCE “O” Level examination or their equivalent, or
(b) Two (2) papers at Principal Level in H.S.C. or G.C.E. Advanced Level plus credit passes in four (4) other papers (including English Language, Literature in English and Mathematics) in the SSS Certificate examination or GCE “O” Level examination or their equivalent.

(x) DELSU accepts

a) Two A’ Level passes in Arts or Social    Science.

b) At least an upper credit at OND in    Communication Studies and related fields.

c) At least a Merit in Diploma in Mass Communication from Delta State University.

(xi) GOUNI accepts BSc, BA or HND in any discipline, ND (Upper Credit) pass in Mass Communication.

(xii) RNU accepts NCE, ND/HND or First Degree in relevant subjects plus O’ level requirements.

(xiii) CALEB accepts ND at Credit level in Mass Communication or Social Sciences related studies may be considered for admission by direct entry provided they have the UME subjects at one sitting.

(ix) CRESCENT accepts NCE, ND, HND and their approved equivalents with at least lower credit may be admitted to the appropriate level.
(a) IJMB at acceptable grades levels.

(b) In exceptional cases, holders of ND with lower credit from recognized institutions may be admitted to 200 level (part II) in relevant degree programmes, provided they satisfy the minimum requirements stipulated for entry into 100 level

(c) HND with lower credit from recognized institutions may be admitted into 200 level in the relevant degree programmes provided they satisfy the minimum requirements stipulated for entry into 100 level.

(x) UNILAG accepts Very good passes in three JUPEB/A’ Level subjects: Literature-in-English and any two of Economics, Government, History and CRS/IRS.

 (xi)  PAN-ATLANTIC accepts

a. two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects.

b. ND lower credit in relevant programmes.

c. NCE lower credit in relevant subjects.

d. HND lower credit in relevant programmes.

e. International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) in relevant subjects.

(xii)  UNILORIN accepts ND upper credit in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations and Advertising.

(xiii)  PLASU accepts

a. degree in any programme provided the candidate meets UTME requirements

b.  HND minimum of lower credit in relevant field, with ‘O’ Level requirements.

c.  ND minimum of Lower Credit in relevant field, with ‘O’ Level requirements.

d. IJMB minimum of seven (7) points with passes in relevant subjects plus UTME requirements.

e. does not accept university diplomas and other diplomas not accredited by the relevant accrediting bodies.

(xiv) EDSU accepts

a) two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in English and any other relevant subject.

b) NCE with passes at merit level in relevant subject.

c) ND/HND at credit level in related discipline.

d) Very good passes in JUPEB/IJMB subjects.

(xv) RSU in addition to ‘O’ Level requirements accepts:

(a) HND (Lower Credit) relevant to the programme.

(b)  OND/ND (Upper Credit) relevant to the discipline.

(c) Degree (Third Class) relevant to the programme.

(d) At least two (2) ‘A’ level passes at GCE preferably in the Arts and Social Sciences.

(xvi) FUOYE accepts Professional Diploma in Mass communication of any University approved by the Senate of the University with not less than a GPA of 3.0. Candidates with G.C.E ‘A’ Level are not accepted for direct entry in Mass Communication.

(xvii) AAUA accepts two (2) ‘A’ Level passes or   ND upper credit in Mass Communication from recognised institutions

(xviii) BUK requires two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Social Science subjects.  National Diploma in Mass Communication is acceptable. GCE ‘A’ Level is not acceptable.

(xix) BINGHAM accepts ND upper credit in Public Administration and other related programmes.  It also requires two (2) ‘A’ Level passes to include Government or History.

(xx) KASU accepts  Two ‘A’ Level passes in Literature in English and one other Art or Social Science subjects. HND/ND Lower Credit and NCE Merit in Mass Communication and IJMB with 7 points and above in Social Science subjects.

(xxi) UNIILORIN accepts;

a) Ordinary Diploma (at Upper Credit Level) in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations and Advertising, in addition with satisfying the O/Level requirements.

b) JUPEB result or its equivalents with not less than 10 points from a combination of: English Language, English Literature and either of Yoruba, IRK/CRK, Government, Geography or Economics, are acceptable for Direct Entry.

c) Meanwhile, Candidates being admitted with JUPEB or its equivalents must also satisfy the O/Level requirements, especially obtaining at least a credit pass in English Language and Mathematics.

(xxii) ABU accepts  Two ‘A’ level /IJMB passes which must include Government or History and any one from Economics, Sociology and any Nigerian or International Language. ABU Diploma in Mass Communication with minimum of Merit.

(xxiii) UNIBEN accepts:

a) ND Mass Communication upper credit or its equivalent.

b) ‘A’ Level or HSC with passes in Literature in English, History and CRS or any other Arts or Social Science subjects.

c) NCE credit in Theatre Arts or relevant subject.

(xxiv) PAN-ATLANTIC accepts;

a) Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects.

b) OND/ND with lower credit passes in relevant courses.

c) NCE with lower credit passes in relevant courses.

d) HND with lower credit passes in relevant courses.

e) International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) in relevant subjects.
