- Specimen G (Earthworm) - Physical/mechanical

(c) Ways in which the specimens cause rock breakdown are:
- Specimen G burrows into rocks and creates wide cleavages which cause rocks to disintergrate into smaller particles and this creates room for water and air which aid rock disintegration.
- Specimen H dissolves to form weak acids that dissolve rock particles and attaches H and OH ions to some compounds to form minerals. Running water drags rock particles along and these collide with themselves and wall and thus breakdown. The force of running water pulls away rock particles from embankments/floor of channels.
- Specimen I - conversion of water into ice results in increase in Volume and pressure exerted within the rock causes it to crack and fall apart. Also movement of ice along a path leads to further dislodgement of particles.
