SECTION A: ESSAY
Write a story illustrates the saying: Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.
Explanation
My father was the village head of Amanza Kingdom in Jigawa State. He ascended the throne at the age of 27 years old. The throne is ascended by hereditary. It is always the senior male child of the village head that will emerge as the new village head of the Amanza people. When my father was alive, we lack nothing in our house, because all the tributes, fine, dues, booties from war, proceeds from the sales of farmlands and other money generating ventures in the community were handed over to my father. We fed fat from all these, with a merry heart.
When my father died, I was crowned the new village head of the Amanza Kingdom. I was so happy that I was going to control all that resources in the kingdom as my father did, when he was alive. Little did I know what my father passed through as the village head of the Kingdom. Numerous
land cases, settlement of disputes of all sorts, series of meetings: both day and night, offering of sacrifices before planting seasons, sacrifices before harvesting of yam and new yam festivals, were too cumbersome for me. I hardly sleep with my two eyes closed or have time for my family. Many a
time, my wife hardly sees me. My wife eats alone, stays in the house without my company. My children also scarcely see me. One day my last born saw me in the day time eating in the parlour, she ran to the mother and told her mother "One man is eating our food in the parlour". My wife answered
her "he is your father". The girl asked the mother why she had never seen me before at home. The mother told her that, she always sleeps when l leave early in the morning and come back late at night when she is fast asleep
It is a tough time for me. I used to be very healthy but now, I am sickly I wake up early in the morning and stay throughout the day without resting. Sometimes, I will stay with my cabinet members throughout the night without sleep, deliberating on matters affecting the communities. Despite all the
wealth I have as the village head of Amanza Kingdom, l am healthy enough to enjoy my wealth . I have now become a problem for myself and my family. I as a person with great power, a king in my kingdom, I am constantly apprehensive. I cannot find a moment's peace and repose. As a king who has great responsibilities, i am constantly worried and therefore, i don't sleep soundly.
I have now come to see why my father was always preoccupied with the affairs of the Amanza Kingdom. I have also experienced it. Therefore, the saying: uneasy lies the head that wears a crown it true, the king has no time for himself.
