Mathematics JAMB 2001

Differentiate \((2x+5)^{2} (x-4)\) with respect to x.

  • 4(2x+5)(x-4)
  • 4(2x+5)(4x-3)
  • (2x+5)(2x-13)
  • (2x+5)(6x-11) checkmark

The correct answer is: D

Explanation

\(y = (2x + 5)^{2} (x - 4)\)

\(\frac{\mathrm d y}{\mathrm d x} = (2x + 5)^{2} (1) + (x - 4)(2)(2)(2x + 5)\)

= \((2x + 5)(2x + 5 + 4x - 16)\)

= \((2x + 5)(6x - 11)\)
