Mathematics JAMB 2023

Solve for x: 3(x – 1) ≤ 2 (x – 3)

  • x ≤ -3 checkmark
  • x ≥ -3
  • x ≤ 3
  • x ≥ 3

The correct answer is: A

Explanation

3(x – 1) ≤ 2 (x – 3)

= 3x – 3 ≤ 2x – 6

Add 3 to both sides

= 3x – 3+ 3 ≤ 2x – 6+ 3

= 3x ≤ 2x – 3

Subtract 2x from both the sides

= 3x – 2x ≤ 2x – 3 – 2x

∴ x ≤ -3
