Mathematics WAEC 2019

Solve: \(\frac{y + 1}{2} – \frac{2y – 1}{3}\) = 4

  • y = 19
  • y = -19 checkmark
  • y = -29
  • y = 29

The correct answer is: B

Explanation

\(\frac{y + 1}{2} - \frac{2y - 1}{3}\) = \(\frac{4}{1}\)

- \(\frac{3(y + 1) - 2(2y - 1)}{6} = \frac{4}{1}\)

3y + 3 - 4y + 2 = 24

- y + 5 = 24

- y = 24 - 5 = 19

y = - 19
