The truth set of \(8 + 2x – x^2\) = 0 is {p, q}. Evaluate p + q.

  • 4
  • 2 checkmark
  • -6
  • -2

The correct answer is: B

Explanation

\(8 + 2x - x^2 = 0\)
\(8 + 4x - 2x - x^2 = 0\)
4(2 + x) - x(2 + x) = 0
(4 - x)(2 + x) = 0
4 - x = 0 or 2 + x = 0
x = 4 or x =- 2
So, p = 4 and q = -2
∴ p + q = 2
