The Health Equity for Africa Programme backs health businesses in Africa.

 

It is led by Boehringer Ingelheim and Villgro Africa.

The aim is to support work that improves health access across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Support comes through training, funding, and direct help.

The goal is to help more people through health-based work.

Follow the two-phase structure

Incubation Phase (6 months)

  • Weekly coaching with a portfolio manager and expert guides.
  • Monthly group lessons on business plans and investment plans.
  • Final pitch to move into the next phase (not all will move forward).
  • Access to grants based on clear needs.

Acceleration Phase (6 months)

  • Two-week coaching sessions with expert support.
  • Group panels with key players in the field.
  • Access to research tools and funding to improve work.
  • Direct talks with investors linked to Boehringer Ingelheim and Villgro.
  • Show your work at the MMH T event for growth and funding.
 

Get details on the support

If picked, your business may get:

  • Up to $80,000 in grant support.
  • Coaching for 12 months across both phases.
  • Talks with investors and funding bodies.
  • Lessons and reviews to improve your structure and plans.
  • A chance to present at the Making More Health Together event in Germany.

Check the entry rules

You must:

  • Be a profit-based business, working in at least one country in Africa.
  • Earn at least $250,000 yearly and be active in the market.
  • Have a strong base of users and steady demand.
  • Plan to raise $1 million or more in the next year.
  • Have a full team, with three years of business activity.
  • Improve health access for at least 60,000 people per year.
  • Show how past funding has helped growth.
  • Follow health rules and meet funding standards.
  • Use a working plan to track health and money results.
  • Focus all work in Africa.
