WAEC Records 34,878 Credits In Maths, English – 2024 GCE

WAEC has released the 2024 GCE results for private candidates. Over 65,000 candidates sat for the exam, with more than half securing credits in key subjects. Keep reading for a full breakdown of the results.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has published the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates.

The Head of the National Office, Dr. Dangut Amos, made this announcement on Sunday. This was confirmed by the council’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina.

Breakdown of Candidate Performance

A total of 65,023 candidates participated in the examination.

Out of this number, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) earned credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

This performance marks an improvement from previous years:

  • 2023: 44.29% passed
  • 2022: 42.16% passed

This means the overall pass rate increased by 9.35% compared to the previous year.

Male and Female Performance

Results show that female candidates performed better than male candidates.

  • 16,886 male candidates (48.41%) met the credit requirement.
  • 17,992 female candidates (51.58%) met the credit requirement.

Results Processing and Pending Cases

A total of 62,364 candidates (95.90%) have fully processed results.

However, 2,669 candidates (4.1%) have pending results due to errors in their submissions.

Withheld Results for Malpractice

WAEC has withheld the results of 2,577 candidates (3.98%) over suspected malpractice.

Investigations will determine whether these results will be released or cancelled.

Special Needs Candidates

A total of 157 candidates with special needs had their results fully processed.

This group includes:

  • 25 visually impaired candidates
  • 13 hearing impaired candidates
  • 15 albino candidates
